Loading... Please wait...Heritage Hurley’s was established in 2009. There seemed to be a lack of hurling gifts in Ireland for hurling fans and visitors to our country so we researched further and through trial and error we came up with a method of producing souvenir hurls making it an affordable gift for all.
As you can imagine, starting up a new business in the middle of the country’s biggest recession was and is still, a very difficult thing to do.
We then began to introduce our products to gift shops and sports shops and each shop we visited were eager to stock our products.
At the beginning of 2010 our hurls were part of a pitch on Dragon’s Den.Our picture souvenir Hurls were presented to the dragons as gifts as part of a pitch by a company selling playing hurleys online.
Niall O’Farrell, Bobby Kerr, Gavin Duffy, Sean Gallagher and Sarah Newman were given a selection of our Family Crests and county crest hurls on the show. Following the show our souvenir hurls were on sale on this website for a short time until Heritage Hurleys website was developed with the help of ex Dublin inter county hurler, Kevin Flynn of iCreative.ie.
Our souvenir hurls today range from 10” to 36” and are great gifts for all occasions. We can include any type of imagery on the hurls, club crests, family photos and classic teams from the past.
Our hurls are also customised for the Irish tourist market where we have personalised hurls for Gift shops around Ireland and many gift shops around the world.
The hurls are becoming very popular as corporate gifts and with GAA clubs for presentations to teams past and present.
With great colour and clarity our souvenir hurleys are also a great year round favourite gift. Christmas, Weddings, birthdays, retirements etc.
With our website only in its early stages in 2011, Heritage Hurleys got a break that we will not forget as we then got a request for a souvenir hurl that would be seen not only in Ireland, but all over the world!
The Obama hurl was born! The Obama hurl was a surreal moment for Heritage Hurleys. The Taoiseach’s office were looking for a gift which would be something special, Irish, unique. The souvenir hurley was the perfect gift.
Thankfully, the Taoiseach’s office was then pointed in the direction of Heritage Hurleys to create a hurley, to be presented to Barack Obama on his visit to Ireland.
Heritage Hurleys then set out to design the hurl, using Celtic imagery for the bas with the presidents motto, Is Féidir linn. An inscription was placed on the shaft of the hurl which read: “Presented to Barack Obama, President of the United States of America, on the occasion of his first visit to Ireland, May 2011 by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD.” The hurl was then finished with a glaze to protect the imagery and preserve the wood.
The Obama hurl proved a huge hit with the Taoiseach himself and with Barack Obama, being broadcast live all around the world.
With Heritage Hurleys now proving to be a quality product this year, we then received an official GAA merchandising licence. Our Souvenir Hurleys are the only hurls to carry the Official GAA County Crest logos.
At the end of 2011, we also provided a souvenir hurl for the Disney character, 'Duffy Bear', as the prop for an outfit designed by Louise Kennedy for the Duffy Bear exhibition at Disneyland, Paris.
Over the last two years we have strived to make our products the best on the market and we are always looking into the best way to improve and bring a quality product to our customers.
The hurls we use for customising are made by hurley makers in Ireland. No imported materials are used, preserving and promoting the art of hurley making and promoting the ancient Irish game.
2011 also saw Heritage Hurleys go on a step further and we have now gone on to make our own Hurleys and we are now using 90% Irish grown wood keeping 2000 years of Irish heritage alive for the foreseeable future.
Heritage hurleys are registered with the Crafts Council of Ireland.*
